The Ocean

I absolutely love photographing the ocean. It mesmerizes me. I am in awe of its vastness, its diverse colors, the power and tenderness of its waves, its ability to sustain life, and just the beauty of it.  Every day while visiting family in Hawaii, I did my own form of walking meditation on the beach where I tried to quiet my mind and just be with the waters and all the life within and around. I watched the surfers brave the waves.  I listened to the local birds sing to one another. I smelled the salt in the air.  I tried to feel each grain of sand between my toes.

And I photographed one of Mother Earth's sweetest gifts, the ocean.

  1. Jamie, your ocean photographs are full of vastness and beauty! I took a deep breath and almost smelled the salty air ;) Mesmerizing and tender indeed. Love all your shots, but the first one really has me dreaming...

    1. That is my favorite too, Catherine! I probably sat there for like an hour just watching when I finally took that shot. I just hope my photo captured and evokes half the beauty I saw that day! :)

Thank you again for the lovely words. You are the best!

  2. What a breath of fresh air, Jamie! I can taste the salt and the warm tropical tradewinds. Mmm, yes, the first image is so pretty with its variances of jeweled aqua tones in the ocean and sky. Gorgeous!

    1. Thank you! It was your photos of Maui that inspired me on some of these - especially my surfing photos! I absolutely adored the one of you took of your boys in the ocean. However, since I don't have any little ones just yet, I had to improvise! :)
